2024 Winner - Josh Taylor, Athletics
Josh Taylor has showcased remarkable dedication and skill in his sporting journey. Representing New Zealand at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin in June 2023, Josh excelled, earning a silver medal in the 200m and a bronze in the 4x100m relay. His competitive streak continued as he achieved notable results at national and regional events, including gold in the Open Para 400m at the Potts Classic and the Cooks Classic. Balancing full-time work and intense training, Josh also contributes to his community by coaching Special Olympics athletes, highlighting his commitment both on and off the track.
Open to any disabled sportsperson who has excelled as an individual or as part of a team in one or more sports. This award recognises two athletes, one at a community-based level and one at a performance-based level. Achievements by nominees will only be considered if they have occurred during the qualifying period of 1 April 2023 to 1 April 2024.

Performance level is considered to be a sport played at a competition level nationally or internationally

Community level is considered to be a sport played locally, regionally, competitively (as an amateur), or socially. It can be within a registered club or an unaffiliated sports group or team

Judges will also take into account involvement and commitment to the sport on and off the field. Any relevant examples of the nominee going above and beyond within their sport will be considered
